Love Thy Selfie
February is the shortest month of the year and also happens to produce the biggest pass or fail test in the love department. This is the month when individuals are assessing the singleness of others and themselves. Couples are measuring the depths of their partner’s feelings and wondering how they will be acknowledged. Excitement frequently turns to angst when choosing between white, dark or milk chocolate. Floral shops are busy with people brainstorming whether to purchase a long stem rose or the bouquet, teddy bear and card or…the list goes on.
Being surrounded by such visually stimulating activities can initiate self-reflections, pondering reasons surrounding the absence of Mr. or Ms. Right. Rather than allowing feelings of shame to surface, I would like to encourage you to put more time and energy into loving you, taking care of you, learning you. What are your likes and dislikes? Interests? Is there a spa you want to try, a book you would like to read, stores you would like to visit?
Yes, you will see “love symbols” everywhere you turn, but take pride in you. Do things that make you happy! Remember, everyone that is getting flowers, candy and cards is not necessarily feeling loved-sometimes it is just a facade. Either perpetrated by their partners or themselves. As the saying goes- everything that glitters is not gold.
Self Love is Real Love, so practice Loving Thy Selfie!
